1977 oil on canvas still life depicting a tall bouquet of hydrangeas, a bowl of fruit, and a blue bottle against a vibrant tabletop and background. Signed and dated in the upper right by William Reese. Painting has an expressive color palette and impressionistic style. Displayed in a beige fabric mat with a wood frame. Back stretcher marked with title "Summer Bloom" as well as medium "oil" and the artist's signature.
William F. Reese (1938-2010) was a renowned painter born in South Dakota and raised in Central Washington. Reese studied fine art at Washington State College and the Art Center School of Design in Los Angeles. He worked as a sign painter and a sign pictorial artist for thirteen years on the West Coast while he was building a following for his easel paintings. In 1971 he left the sign business to work full time in his studio in Bellevue, Washington, where he also privately taught drawing and painting. Reese was best known as a plein air artist, capturing the Pacific Northwest and all kinds of locations in various weather. Reese's work has been shown throughout the United States and in many exhibitions abroad. His work was included in the first exhibition of contemporary art from the western world in mainland China since China's reopening.
Condition: In excellent vintage condition. Canvas has no notable damage. Some minor wear to the fabric mat and wood frame as pictured.
