Antique English c. 1889-1891 glazed stoneware Craftsman-style jug manufactured by Doulton Lambeth. The jug has a thick handle and metal at rim with indented spout. Vessel is patterned after an old pigskin football with stitches in the clay and dark brown hide texture. Each "panel" of the body features an enigmatic set of white words that form a puzzle motto, spelling backwards the phrase, "DISDAIN ME NOT / IT IS MOST TRUE / I AM OF CLAY / AND SO ARE YOU." Base features several stamps, including "Doulton & Slaters Patent" and "Doulton Lambert" logo along with a patent number.
Condition: In excellent condition. There is a very small flat chip at the base. Otherwise no notable damage, as pictured.
